Our Last Week!!

We will be just reviewing this week and finishing out spelling list from last week.

Here are a few of the special things we will be doing this week.

Tuesday

we will be having a special snowman and hot chocolate day!

Wednesday

we will be sharing our special Christmas surprise with our reading buddies and Kindergarten STEM partners.

Thursday

we are having a special Gingerbread Day with all of elementary

(there may be gingerbread houses involved) 

Friday

we will have our Christmas party - this will include a show and share day.

Nov 21-25

This week:

If you still have pizza coupons at home the money is due on Nov 30th. 

Wednesday we will be celebrating Dr Seuss and having a Green Eggs and Ham day!  We will join Kindergarten for fun activities and experiments (please check email for supplies needed).

Math - We are continuing our exploration of place value.  The students had a great time taking inventory last week and counting everything they could get their hands on :)  This week we will be using that information to explore 10's 5's and 1's and how our number system works together.

Language - I am so proud of our class, I have seen a marked improvement in their reading.  Keep practicing at home and having your child re-tell what they have read.

Spelling - new list went home Friday

Scripture - Due in 2 weeks

Nov 14-18

We had a great day at the zoo yesterday!  We are excited to begin our second quarter. 😊

This week:

Math - We are going to be taking the next 2 weeks and doing an in depth investigation with organizing and collecting.  Some of the "Big Ideas" that we will be exploring/developing are: equivalence, place determines value, patterns occur when making and adding on groups of 10. We will be doing several "investigations" like this throughout the year. I'm excited to have the students exploring math in a new meaningful way.

 Language - We are continuing on with our phonics and reading strategies

Writers Workshop - We are beginning a unit on Narrative writing - get reading for some amazing stories!

Spelling - Check out Spelling city for practice.

We are excited to have you join us for Parent Teacher Partnership night!  The students have prepared what they would like to share with you and are looking forward to challenging you to a Math game.

Any posters for the Remembrance Day contest should be brought in this week. 

This week:

1st grade
Math - adding 2 digit numbers, reviewing patterns and place value
Phonics - beginning a new special sound chart.
Writer`s Workshop - students will continue to write and share their narrative writing.  Working on re-reading our writing and looking for punctuation and capitals.
Reading - after finishing this reader I will be choosing readers based on reading levels.
Spelling - all lists will be on Spelling city this week
Bible - new scripture for Nov.

2nd grade
Math - adding multiple digit numbers with re-groupîng, reviewing place value and patterns
Phonics - reviewing special sounds
Writer`s Workshop - students will continue to write and share their narrative writing.  Working on re-reading our writing and looking for punctuation and capitals and sentences that make sense.
Spelling  - all lists will be on spelling city this week
Bible - new scripture for Nov.

Oct 24-28

I hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend!  Next Monday we will be celebrating all things pumpkin!  Students are asked to wear orange and be ready for a day of exploration and fun!

First Grade
Math - place value - ones and tens, adding up to 20

Second Grade
Math - place value to the thousands, adding up to 100

Oct 11-14

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! This week I am introducing Writer's Workshop with our class.  Your child will be writing and sharing with the class on a regular basis.  With this format they are able to use the mini-lessons that are given and move at their own pace.  I will be able to give more individualized attention to their writing and work with them to implement the strategies that are taught. 

This week...
First Grade
Math - We are beginning a unit on place value (ones, tens). How these groupings help us solve problems mentally.
Language - continuing with our special sounds, rhyming, syllables
Spelling - ck and ke rule with our words
Bible - new scripture coming home tomorrow

Second Grade
Math - We are beginning a unit on place value (ones, tens, hundreds, thousands). How these groupings help us solve problems mentally.
Language -  reviewing special sounds, syllables, and sentences vs. phrases.
Bible - new scripture coming home tomorrow

Oct 3-7

Fall is here! We enjoyed our special afternoon at the park on Friday and look forward to doing it again so we can collect some of the beautiful leaves! 
This Wednesday we will be going to Belliveau Orchard.  We will leave at 11 am and eat lunch over there before our tour.  If you are joining us please remember that adults also pay $3.  You can send it in tomorrow or give it to me that day as they would like us to pay for our group altogether.

This week:

First grade
Math - For the next couple of weeks we will be focusing on adding and subtracting within 20.
Language - We are continuing on with our 2nd set of special sounds.  These will be in our reading/writing and spelling.
Spelling - please continue to have your child practice the words each night.
Bible - our scripture is due this week about have of the students have said it already!

Second Grade
Math - Over the next couple of weeks we will be focusing on place value to the 1,000's.
Language - We will continue to practice our phonics and review the spelling rules. 
Spelling - great job on writing the words each night!
Bible - scripture memory is due this week.  The students really seem to know it this month and are using great expression as they recite it!

Sept. 26- Oct 1

Hi everyone, I hope you all enjoyed the beautiful weekend! On Tuesday we are excited to be joining Kindergarten for a STEM activity.  If you can send in an empty cereal box or cardboard tubes that would be great (sorry for the short notice!).

This week in First Grade:
Math  - making/recognizing/organizing numbers to 20
Lang - recognizing short and long sounds in words, recognizing/writing blends
Reading - written on bookmark each day
Spelling - this week the words follow the rule, "K comes before i and e; C comes before the other      three a,o,u."

This week in Second Grade:
Math - composing/decomposing numbers, greater/less/equal
Lang - syllables, sentence rules, writing beginning blends
Reading - On bookmark each day
Spelling - this weeks words focus on bl, cl, fl, gl, pl.
